April 22, 2010 — Since 1997, due to the work of Capt. Moore and his organization Algalita, the plastic accumulation in the North Pacific gyre and its consequences have come to light. The environmental conditions in the North Pacific, however, is not unique so 5 Gyres is on a mission to explore all five areas of the ocean where toxic plastics are ending up. I spoke to Anna Cummins of 5 Gyres after her recent return from the North Altantic. Here’s our conversation.
