Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area

Due to climate change, more rain, and hence more flooding, is expected to increase over the coming years. Are dams, levies and the flooding of populated areas the only solutions? In 1916 the people of Sacramento, Calif., didn't think so. Rivers must be allowed to extend beyond it's bank occasionally so the Yolo Bypass was designed to catch the overflow of the Sacramento River and divert it harmlessly downstream. Not only is this an ingenious way to prevent flooding of populated areas, but the system of weirs and bypasses also creates a wet lands habitat which has become a popular wildlife refuge or animals and people.
